SCIENTIFIC EDUCATIONAL CENTER science idea

Scientists of the Interfaculty Center for Virtual Reality of Moscow State University and the Center "Supersvuk" of Moscow State University are participants in the Scientific and Educational School "Mathematical Methods for the Analysis of Complex Systems" together with colleagues from the Institute of Control Problems named after V.A. Trapeznikov RAS and Mexico built a model of the oculomotor response to the forced movement of the human head using a differential neural network with an impulse activation function.
The vestibulo-ocular reflex is one of the automatic reactions of a person to movement, which consists in the rotation of the eyes in the direction opposite to the rotation of the head. This effect allows you to keep the object of interest in the area of the highest clarity of vision on the retina, compensating for both natural and forced vibrations of the body. The presence of the described reflex significantly affects the requirements for virtual reality systems and training complexes with mobile platforms. In order to take into account the oculomotor response effectively and without delay, it is necessary to build a model that, given the known input data, will make it possible to predict the turn of the eyes.
“Our article describes a similar model presented in the form of a differential neural network. This means that the network is given by a system of differential equations chosen in such a way as to ensure that the approximation error is reduced during operation. The activation functions that connect input and output data are based on a neuron impulse model, which is inspired by the real scheme of the oculomotor response - the eye muscles and the vestibular apparatus are connected by a chain of three neural nodes, ”said one of the authors of the article, junior researcher at the Supersonic Center Moscow State University Artur Mukhamedov.
The authors tested the performance of the model on the basis of experimental data collected in the laboratory of software for simulation dynamic systems of Moscow State University. The result obtained will be used to create new high-speed virtual reality systems and to assess the quality of aerospace simulators.
